Wind turbines – are they really like big fluffy bunnies?

I have been covering the issue of wind turbines at West Lincoln council in recent months.

I have to say, I cringe when I see wind turbines on the council agenda. I know it’s going to be a late night. There are going to be delegates, usually for and against the wind turbines.

Everybody will want to speak. I am usually wondering how late I will get home.

What’s wrong with wind turbines?

They look kind of nice on the green hills of rural Canada.

Fluffy bunny nice.

Who wouldn’t want a wind turbine in their back forty?

Maybe you can even live at the top, like a lighthouse.

I am, perhaps, using a bit of hyperbole, but seriously, when we drive by and see big wind turbines slowly churning away, providing electricity that isn’t going to make anyone sick, or have have a melt-down if the reactor blows, we think they look nice.

Fluffy bunny nice.

So, why the uproar?

Are wind turbine opponents the biggest examples of NIMBYs we’ve seen for a while?
