Haldimand — WANTED: Council with Integrity and Backbones

I never cease to be amazed by our Mayor and council’s justification and lack of concern for rural Haldimand residents.  I for one am tired of the constant onslaught and lack of concern for us. It’s not bad enough that they lied to us about supporting the moratorium against the IWTs, but then turned around and Ken does a commercial on how much the residents welcome these into Haldimand County. I personally do not remember ever saying that!! The Natives show us more support than our own council does. Ken Hewitt turns a blind eye to everything that makes him uncomfortable except money!! He was very distraught over the removal of an active eagles’ nest. He was so outraged!!!  Are you kidding me??

The newest assault on rural Haldimand, are the closing of three fire stations. One in Fisherville, Byng, and Molton over by Lowbanks. Again, this will affect the rural area residents.

Why you may ask… because our council brought in someone from Hamilton for a consult who obviously knows nothing about rural living. Again it is all about numbers, and he suggested it would save $60,000.00 give or take, a year!! Seriously?? Is this not the most ludicrous thing you have ever heard? Or maybe not because it doesn’t affect you in anyway, so why care.

What are we supposed to do if we have a fire? Sit and watch our homes burn to the ground and hope no one dies while waiting for the fire dept. to get here from miles away? Have they totally lost their minds? Obviously they are not closing or considering closing any in Caledonia.

Why is it that nothing gets taken away from Hagersville, Caledonia, Dunnville, or Cayuga? It seems just rural Haldimand. We have Library hours slashed, fire stations closing, IWT’s coming in. All because of MONEY! Then to add insult to injury, they gave themselves a hefty raise. The councillors, went from $25000.00 to $36,021.00 and our Mayor went from $50,000.00 $72,040.00. And the residents sit and shake their heads helplessly.

Caledonia is having issues with illegal smoke shacks on #6 highway, and nothing gets done. Our municipal government is afraid to upset the residents of the larger towns, so rural Haldimand takes the hit.

Well I have good news for all the residents of Haldimand County. It is with great pleasure that I let you know that now we are ALL going to be assaulted equally! Our illustrious Mayor and Council are now going to gouge us all by putting up our water and sewage rates. It warms my heart to know that he isn’t showing favoritism this time. The problem again is rural Haldimand, it is going to affect the livelihoods of the people that deliver water and pump the sewage tanks.

So I have decided that I personally have had enough, and I am going to make it about money as well.

I promised Mr. Hewitt and our council that I was going to start a tax revolt in the New Year and unlike our council I am true to my word.

There will be a public meeting at Cayuga Secondary School on Thurs Feb 21 at 7pm. This will be an information meeting and I am hoping for ALL residents that are willing to take a stand, come out and let’s show our council who they are accountable too, not the other way around. Told you Ken… the gloves are off and the fight is on!!! Bring it! You best make the blood money you are receiving from the Vibrancy fund last because if I can, your tax base is going to shrink considerably.

I am hoping that this will spread right across all other Counties until our elected councils realize, we the taxpayers have had enough!! It is time to take back our democratic rights.

It is all about the money. By following the money trail to its source we can better understand its present function and the effect it has on everything.
Several books (including “The End of Money and the Future of Civilization” by Thomas H. Greco) and documentaries (including “The Money Fix”) help to explain the bigger picture of money and its role in the economy and point toward effective ways of taking control of our own credit and allocating it wisely, instead of just doing what the money controllers demand of us.

“The study of money, above all other fields in economics, is one in which complexity is used to disguise truth or to evade truth, not to reveal it. The process by which banks create money is so simple the mind is repelled.”
    John Kenneth Galbraith

“For in reason, all government without the consent of the governed is slavery.”
    Jonathan Swift
