Ontario PC’s continue to support moratorium on wind turbines

News Release from PC party of Ontario — February 25, 2013

(Queen’s Park)—Evidence continues to mount in support for a call for an industrial wind turbine moratorium. The Grey Bruce Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Hazel Lynn, released Literature Review 2013: Association Between Wind Turbine Noise and Human Distress today.

Dr. Lynn’s review determined the government cannot prove there is no association between industrial wind turbines and indirect health impacts. This review will also be passed on to the Minister of Health and Long-Term Care.

“This is one more proof point that we need a moratorium on industrial wind turbines,” said MPP Lisa Thompson. “Now is the time to hit the pause button and ensure that the appropriate studies are being done before any more turbines are erected. Dr. Lynn’s review is another step in the right direction.”

Dr. Lynn also revealed that Ontario’s Chief Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Arlene King, is doing another study—as FOI documents from the Ministry of the Environment released by Lisa Thompson, MPP (Huron-Bruce) last month proved Dr. King’s initial report didn’t factor indirect health impacts of wind turbines.

“We have to look at the facts—and they’re pointing towards a moratorium,” said Thompson. “Premier Wynne in her Throne Speech promised her government would be ‘respectful and direct.’ Well action is worth more than words, and if Premier Wynne wants to be respectful and direct as she claims, she will look at this mounting evidence and issue a moratorium immediately.”
