Ontario needs to abandon the Green Energy Act

The Ontario Progressive Conservatives have opposed the province’s Green Energy Act since its introduction in 2009, due to its high subsidies for wind and solar power at an unsustainable rate, considering it is also unreliable power.

The Green Energy Act stripped locally based decision-making by municipalities that oppose wind and solar developments. It did not create the 50,000 jobs as promised by the Liberal government.

In fact, according to the auditor general, for every job created, four more are lost. And no health, economic or scientific effects were studied prior to the Liberal government passing the Green Energy Act.

While Ontarians oppose the act, the World Trade Organization (WTO) ruled that Canada (through Ontario) broke an international trade agreement because of its high subsidies for wind and solar projects with domestic content.

Since the Ontario government falls under federal jurisdiction, any relation for non-compliance is directed at Canada, not just Ontario.  Continue reading here…
